How do you choose a sealant that's fit for purpose? Achieving the right movement capability is one factor, but what about chemical resistance, UV stability, paintability and compliance with potable water standards? Drawing on the Nitoseal, Thioflex and Flamex ranges, Fosroc ANZ offers the most complete range of sealant technologies in the market.
From general purpose to specialist and heavy industry products, we have sealants designed for most substrates, environments and project challenges. For specifiers and applicators, this makes Fosroc ANZ a one-stop shop where you will always find the right sealant for the job.
"We have polyurethanes, hybrids, silicones, polysulfides and now a polyurea sealant. Nitoseal PY350 will dramatically improve return to service times for warehouse and retail floors," explains Colin Picton, Fosroc ANZ Product Segment Specialist for Waterproofing & Sealants.
Here's a quick guide on how to find the right sealant for your next project.
NEW Polyurea: Nitoseal PY350 cures in two hours
A brand new product in the ANZ market, Nitoseal PY350 offers excellent return to service times and wheel resistant hardness for concrete floors in retail, warehousing, bunds and other industrial settings.
"It will be fully cured within two hours, compared to days and weeks for more traditional sealants," Colin says. "It also cures very hard. It's the ideal choice to handle forklift wheels, for example."
Designed for low movement and saw cut joints, PY350 is a two-part, gun applied, hybrid polyurea sealant which cures very rapidly to form a durable, hard wearing and colour stable seal.
UV resistant, it can be used on exterior and interior surfaces. It can also be used to repair spalled concrete joints.
High Shore A hardness means it can stand up to heavy, hard wheeled traffic.
“It’s a great product. Colour stability will be another big benefit for asset managers. It won't need to be painted or overcoated. In comparison, other polyurea sealants on the market tend to pump out grey but can yellow after a short time under UV exposure.”
Silicones - Nitoseal SC range including NEW Nitoseal SC100 for cladding
Our Nitoseal SC silicone range covers infrastructure, general building and other specialist requirements, such as anti-pick sealants for prisons, bio resistance and potable water compliance.
For concrete cladding, our new product Nitoseal SC100 offers huge benefits for multi-residential projects.
"It is well priced and will prevent the common problem of discolouration from sealers that bleed into the concrete. We think it's the best cladding sealant on the market," Colin says.
Other Fosroc ANZ silicone sealants:
- For general construction, we have pick-resistant Nitoseal SC140 and, for high movement joints, easy-to-use Nitoseal SC800 and self-smoothing Nitoseal SC820.
- Nitoseal SC600 is bio-resistant and complies to AS4020:2018 for use with potable water. It is resistant to most of the aggressive chemicals used in the food, mining and chemical processing industries. Applicators appreciate this one part, ready to use solution.
Polyurethanes - Nitoseal PU range
Polyurethane sealants are well known in the ANZ market, used in home renovations right through to large general construction projects. Fosroc ANZ's Nitoseal PU polyurethane sealants enable gunning up to three times faster than other PU sealants on the market, especially in colder climates.
"Helping applicators get the job done faster with less clean-up is the key benefit of choosing Nitoseal PUs compared to other PUs," says Colin.
They are available in a facade grade Nitoseal PU250 and a trafficable grade Nitoseal PU400. PU400 is approved for use with potable water.
Silyl Modifed Polymer (Hybrids) - Nitoseal MS range
With no isocyanate, low odour and very low VOC, Nitoseal MS250 and MS400 are elastomeric joint sealants that comprise a blend of silicone and polyurethane. As environmental credentials become increasingly important, Colin believes Fosroc's 'hybrid' sealants can play a key role in the Australian and New Zealand construction industries.
"Our hybrids use polymer technology to blend silicone and polyurethane. They are friendlier on the world and the user, compared to PUs," Colin says. "Excellent weathering and adhesion performance are key physical benefits. Effectively they offer the best elements of both PU and SC sealants."
Both are ultra UV resistant; Nitoseal MS250 is ideal for general construction facades, while high strength Nitoseal MS400 is for trafficable joints. Hybrids can also be painted over, unlike straight polyurethane sealants that can suffer from plasticizer bleed, which results in discolouration and a tacky surface that attracts dirt and dust.
We also have a hybrid in our fire-resistant range. Flamex XT is acoustic rated, low VOC and paintable. "Flamex XT also contains zero isocyanate. It performed extremely well in terms of fire resistance compliance to AS1530.3 and AS1530.4,” Colin says.
Polysulfides - Thioflex range
For infrastructure requiring fuel resistance, specifiers can look to our Thioflex range. It is a trusted solution for roads, airfields and refuelling stations, bridges, carparks and transport hubs.
These polysulfide sealants are fast curing to minimise facility down time. Thioflex 600 is available in pouring and gun grades and can be used to seal vertical and horizontal joints.
Get in touch for product selection advice
Apart from Fosroc ANZ's comprehensive range of sealant technologies, another point of difference is the product selection support we offer to both specifiers and applicators.
“Sealants are viewed by some as a 'commodity' product, but we don't see it that way. It is imperative that sealants are specified and installed correctly," Colin says.
The first point of call is your account manager or state specification manager. Complete the 'get in touch' form at the bottom of this webpage if you would like a Fosroc technical expert to contact you.
