Good-looking floors that last
With more than 15 stores around Australia, Fast Times sells skateboards, clothing and footwear. The retailer promotes its stores as a social hub for skateboarders. That's why aesthetic appeal was just as important as function in the flooring solution.
Applied as a clear and hard-wearing top coat, Nitoflor PA delivers floors that are exceptionally tough, easy to maintain, and resistant to fading and yellowing under intense retail lighting.
A unique system
While Fosroc's Cemtop GP Advanced is designed as an underlay for carpet or tiles, it can also provide a smooth, hard surface for over-coating with some products. While Fosroc does not recommend Nitoflor PA be applied directly over Cemtop GP Advanced, Concrete Techniques has created a legitimate system by adding its own custom intermediary coat, in consultation with Fosroc ANZ. The retailer loves the effect and has requested the same system as it rolls out new stores.
Concrete Techniques Director Gavin Owens says the unique system achieves the look of stone without the expense.
“It is a better look compared to most shop floors. When people see it, they think it’s a lot more expensive than it is,” Gavin says. “It’s also really robust. It will look good for a long time and be easy to maintain. The Nitoflor PA protects the base coat. Because it is UV resistant, it prevents yellowing or fading under lighting.”
Both Fosroc products are low VOC, easy to apply and fast curing.
"We never have any problems with smell, and we usually apply it during trading hours. With the PA, we can get a lot of product down quickly,” he adds.
Many shopping centres require shops to be refurbished every five or so years, Gavin explains. With this system, a light sand and re-coat with Nitoflor PA will be fast and affordable to achieve.
Why choose Nitoflor PA?
Nitoflor PA was launched in 2020 to provide resin floor systems with heavy duty protection from UV and abrasion. Fosroc ANZ recommends this 100% solids polyaspartic coating for new and existing floors in high traffic settings.
Now in the market for over a year, Nitoflor PA is making an impact with applicators and specifiers. It is being used in commercial kitchens, manufacturing and automotive facilities, and even prisons. One applicator is even using it for domestic jobs such as garages and mancaves, reports Greg Smith, Fosroc's industrial flooring specialist in Victoria.
"Once applicators try it, they can see and smell the difference," Greg says. "Polyaspartics can be a bit finicky but applicators are very happy with how Nitoflor PA behaves. It offers excellent film build and delivers a repeatable result. You can get a lot of product on quickly in a single application."
This leads to labour cost savings, Greg explains. It is also being used as a faster alternative to single-pack polyurethanes, as a top coat over vinyl flake flooring. Nitoflor PA requires two coats while polyurethanes can require up to four coats to create a smooth finish.
"It is a cost-effective product but you need less of it and it is faster to apply."
