At one of Canberra's diplomatic embassies, 30 years of wear and tear had left the basement and plant room floors in urgent need of repair.
PJG Frawley Construction approached our Canberra team seeking a tough coating solution. As well as durability, a non-slip surface was required for these busy floors.
A full Fosroc solution to repair and protect plant room floors
To address the wear and tear of the basement and plant room floors, Fosroc ANZ's ACT & Southern NSW Account Manager, Geoff Owen, recommended a full grind and repair. A multi-product solution meant Fosroc ANZ was able to supply the entire job.
"Plant rooms and basements can be exposed to water damage through equipment leaks and general moisture, so we specified multiple layers of protection," Geoff explains. "All the coatings were solvent-free and will provide long-term resistance to abrasion and chemicals."
Embassy floors before application
The application team from PJG Frawley Construction followed these steps:
Step 1: Grind back the existing, damaged coatings.
Step 2: Repair the floor and create a level surface with Nitomortar 903 mixed with Nitoflor F4 Fillers. Used here as a priming system for Nitoflor epoxy flooring, Nitomortar 903 creates a mortar screed that allows the coatings to bind to the floor.
Step 3: Nitoseal MS400 was used to seal a construction joint in the floor.
Step 4: A single coat of Nitoflor PU200 was applied as a sealer, adding chemical and abrasion resistance. This product is particularly suitable for plant rooms and wet area floors.
Step 5: A topcoat of Nitoflor PA was applied with Nitoflor Anti-Slip Grains 41 mixed in. This polyaspartic coating is ideal for boosting the lifespan and appearance of new and existing floors.
"Both the customer and the contractor were delighted with the durable, good-looking result and the application process," Geoff says.
